Monday, November 24, 2008.
Mildred
was born on September 21, 1927 to John and Anna Carara in
West New York

N.J.
In 1949, Mildred married Edmund Hughes of
Jersey City
,
N.J.
Together they had four children. Mildred was a homemaker for
her family, raising their four children and providing a
stable home front while her husband went to work. Mildred
had battled cancer for 15 years and never gave up that
battle. She was truly a courageous woman when the odds were
against her. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Mencel
and staff at Atlantic Hematology Oncology,
Manasquan
,
N.J.
for giving Mildred 15 more years of life. This gift of life
allowed Mildred to have a 50th Wedding Anniversary, attend
the weddings of her youngest son, her grandchildren and the
birth of grandchildren and great grandchildren. In these 15
years, Mildred was able to travel with her family on
vacations and enjoyed a good life.
Mildred
is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edmund of Brick,
N.J. Also surviving are her children; Edmund G. and his wife
Gail of Cape Coral, Florida, Howard of Brick, N.J., Michael
and his wife Melissa of Manchester, N.J. and Sandra Hughes
of Toms River, N.J., two brothers, John Carara of Toms
River, N.J. and Andrew Carara of Miami, Florida and a
sister, Adele Thurlby of Brick, N.J. Mildred also leaves
behind six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many
nieces and nephews.

battle with Heart Disease on Fri., Nov 14 at Ocean Medical

. He resided in
North Brunswick
before retiring to Brick. Anyone who knew Paul, loved his
bright eyes, infectious laugh and smile. He lit up a room. To
know him was to truly love him. He was an electrician for
Bristol Myers Squibb,
New Brunswick
for 38 years. He also held the position of Union President
Local 438 OCAW for 8 years. He retired in 2002 He was an avid
fisherman. On any good day, you would find Paul in his
backyard on his boat the “Black Beauty”, preparing for a
fishing trip or just prepping his boat. He loved the Boston
Red Sox and the New York Giants and to see them win the World
Series and the Super Bowl was a dream come true. He loved
going to the track and watching horse racing. He also loved
going to
Atlantic City
. He was a very proud Irishman. He loved to travel and see all
of nature’s beauty.
Paul
was devoted to his family and friends. He loved his children
and lived for his grandchildren’s visits. He loved taking
them fishing and crabbing. Trips to the boardwalk, anything to
make them smile and laugh.
He
will be sadly missed by his wife, Shirley Fodor Painchaud,
Brick; son Kevin and wife Beth of Bedford, VA; daughter
Lorraine and husband Jeff Haynes of Bedford, VA; daughter,
Nicole and husband Joseph Sanchez of Dayton, NJ; son Thomas

John
S. Bernath, of Brick, has passed on from us suddenly and
tragically Tuesday morning, Oct. 21.
Born
June 17, 1961 in New Brunswick to his late mother, Kim Farella
and father, John Bernath who resides in Delaware. John was an
union mason prior to becoming a framer for the past 14 years
at their business, Off the Wall Framing. Along with being a
member of the Sons of the American Legion, John was also a
member of the Brick Moose. Most importantly, John was
everything to everyone. He was a husband and a father along
with a son, uncle and brother, but, moreover, he was a friend
to multitudes of people from coast to coast and loved by all
that knew him and were close to him. He always said,
"Live while you are alive!"
He
is survived by his wife, Jody. He also sadly leaves behind
three children, sons, Steven and Mark, and daughter, Ashley,
along with their mother, Nancy Bernath, all of Bayville. John
is also survived by his two sisters, Roxanne Swain of
Delaware, and Angelina Farella of Texas; and his brother, Gabe
Farella of Texas.
The
memorial services and viewing will be from 6 to 9 p.m.

Joan Hammond, (1947-2008) was born in
Newark
,
New Jersey
to Robert and Vivian Hammond.
Barbara
graduated from
Ocean
Community College
with an associate’s degree, and was the director of the
residential program for the ARC of Ocean County at the time of
her retirement. She completed 20 years with the ARC and was
beloved by employees and clients alike. Barbara
contributed to the field through her volunteer work and
writing. She wrote a chapter “Perspectives of a Care
Provider” for the book entitled, Dementia, Aging and
Intellectual Disabilities: A handbook. In 2002 Barbara
won the Outstanding Professional of the Year Award for
outstanding service to the ARC she was recognized for the
special bond she formed with residents, their families, and
her staff.
Barbara
is survived by her husband Robert D. Kaulfers, daughter
Tristin J. Turrin and her husband Peter Turrin; a son, David
M. Kaulfers; a sister Carol J Kaffenberger; and her husband
Will Kaffenberger; two grandsons, Zachary and Jacob Turrin,
two nieces Jennifer Collins and Sarah Daily, and a nephew Ross
Kaffenberger.
Barbara
had many interest and many friends. She was an avid Giants
football fan, a lover of dogs especially her two Shelties.
She was artistic, loved quilting, stamping, card making and
flower arranging. She was a fabulous cook and Majhon
player. She loved the beach, especially
Key West
, Fl., and sitting in the sun. Her favorite music was
the Beetles, Elton John, and Olivia Newton John. She also
enjoyed riding with her husband on his Harley.
But more
than all of this she was known for her kindheartedness,
sincerity, generosity and genuine love for others that created
her “forever friendships”.

at age 20 where he lived in

until his enlistment in the United States Army in July, 1940.
He served with the 1st Infantry Division known as The Big Red
One, and was part of the Normandy Beach Invasion on D-Day. He
also served in Algeria-French Morocco, Central Europe,
Rhineland during
Battle
of the Bulge,
Sicily
and
Tunisia
. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After separation from
the Army, he returned to
New Jersey
. He became a butcher, working for several companies,
ultimately retiring from Leo Keller,
Newark
NJ
, in 1981. He lived in
Irvington
and
Livingston
before retiring and moving to Lions Head South in Brick, NJ.
He was a member of
St. Joseph
’s Polish National Catholic Church in
Irvington
and
Linden
,
NJ
and the Polish Club in Toms River, NJ. He was a life member of
the American Legion, Lt. George Pietrucha Post #319,
Irvington, and a member of Post #348 in Brick, NJ. He was a
devoted husband, father and family man. He enjoyed cooking and
tending his garden.
He
is predeceased by his beloved wife Anna. Surviving are two
daughters, Mary Anne Weiss and her husband Bernard of Brick,
and Jean Dixon and her husband Kenneth of Carlsbad, CA. Also
surviving are his grandchildren Eileen Cilino, Brian Weiss,
Alex Dixon, Ashley Dixon and his great grandson Donovan Cilino.

He served as a Ship Second Engineer Employer: United Fruit Company
in New York for many years. Born in Jersey City, NJ he lived
there until moving to: Brick in 1960. He served in
the Merchant Marine during the Vietnam war.

, took God’s hand when she heard his call and joined the
heavenly angels on Saturday, September 13 at
Ocean
Medical
Center
, Brick, NJ.
She
was born at home in
Newark

NJ
and resided there until she relocated to
Ortley
Beach
in 1976. Talina was a phenomenal woman who always put the
needs of others before her own needs.
Starting at the tender age of 13, aware of her parents
financial difficulties, she decided to work several jobs to
help support their family of five children.
Throughout her working career, she held several
managerial positions. Talina
retired from her last job after 17 years as a Stride Rite
sales manager in Macy’s in Ocean County Mall.
Known
for her devotion to her family and church she humbly offered
her time, talents, services, and charitable contributions.
She was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society at
Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the Seaside Heights Italian
American Club Ladies Auxillary. Talina’s interests and
hobbies include but not limited to, trips to Atlantic City
casinos, bingo, needlepoint, cooking, baking, 500 Rummy card
games and volunteer for the church.
Despite her illnesses since 2003, Talina lived her life
to the fullest.
She
was predeceased by her parents Matteo and Anna Maria Grosso as
well as by her sisters Donata Shear and Catherine Leo.
Surviving are her son and his wife, Joseph M. and
Patricia Veni, her daughter Diane Veni, and her son and his
wife Harry and Colleen Veni, She is also survived by her 6
grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Paul Introna, Joseph
P, and his wife Christine, Nicholas, Marisa, Matthew, Bryan 2
great grandsons, Paulie and Anthony; her brother and his wife,
Michael and Marge Grosso; her sister and her husband
Antoinette and Manuel Evaristo and many loving nieces
and nephews.
