Helen Feulner Age 87 Brick , NJ died November 1, 2009 at home

She was the Executive Director Of Special Ed, for the NY City Board Of Ed. for 35 years. Born in Bayonne , NJ. She also lived in Kearny and moved to Brick, NJ 31 years ago. Helen served on The Board of Trustee of Iona College in New Rochelle , NY 1979-1993.  Helen then was a Professor at Georgian Court College , Lakewood , NJ , and also served on the Board of Trustees from 2002-2009.  Helen was the recipient of numerous awards for her work with special needs children. She was also the founder of St, Mark’s Hispanic Outreach Program in Sea Girt, NJ. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Bay Head, NJ, She had a PHD in Education from Harvard University.

Rosa E. (Karlsson) Lindholm Age 93 of Brick, NJ died October 17, 2009 at Ocean Medical Center

She was a former Head Of Maintenance for the Brick Township Board Of Education where she worked for 22 years.

Born in New York , NY she lived in Bronx , NY before moving to Brick in 1952. She was a member of the Sewing Circle and founder of the Ladies Aid Society, both of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church , Point Pleasant , NJ. She was a congregant of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church , Point Pleasant , NJ since 1953.

Raymond F. Bukowski, Sr. died October 3, 2009.  

He was born September 17, 1946, in Wilkes-Barre PA.   Graduated Dunellen High School , Trenton State College, and earned a masters degree from Jersey City State College.  He was a life-long Giants fan.  Active outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing.  After retiring in 2001 from 33 years of teaching at Brick High School , he worked at Pell’s Bait and Tackle where he then taught people to fish.  He was also a member of N.J. Waterfowlers Assoc., Ducks Unlimited, Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol and The Special Olympics.

Raymond is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Stacia Bukowski.  Survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Annette (Finlay) Bukowski, his children, Raymond Jr. & Jennifer Bukowski & John & Sally Stoneham.  His 3 precious grandsons, Brendan, Lucas and Logan Bukowski, all here.  His sister & brother in law, Bruce and Susan Jala, Hampton, NJ, his brother and sister in law Douglas and Mary Ann Finlay, Key West, FL, his sister in law, Mary Layton, Ocala, FL, 4 nephews and 1 niece.

SUSAN M. BYRNES Age 95 - Lakewood died Tuesday with family by her side.

She was born and raised in Nutley with six siblings, and attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts following graduation from Nutley High School . During her nearly 96 years, she has also resided in Wayside, Spring Lake , Colorado and Berkley Township , NJ .

Susan was a loving mother and courageous role model, a talented artist and published poet. She may be best known locally, however, as the owner and operator of Sue’s Beauty Shop in Spring Lake , NJ , from the 1950s through the mid 1970s.

She enjoyed singing and harmonizing, reading and studying the Bible, painting family portraits, cooking, sewing, writing, walking, and travel. Her most memorable trip was to Israel and the Holy Land .

Susan is predeceased by her husband of 40 years, James F. Byrnes, and sisters Josephine, Mary, Mildred, Fay, Helen and brother Phil.

She is survived by a son, Terry Byrnes; daughters Jean Ellen Byrnes and Linda Walls; son-in-law Kirby Walls; daughter-in-law Nori Byrnes; six grandchildren: Laurie, Kirby, Brian, Jeremy, Sheri, Don and 13 great grandchildren: Alissa, Wade, Kirby, Kara, Soeren, Abigail, Zachary, Brian, Daniella, Shawn, Jamie, Steven and Jewel. She also leaves three sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and her cat, Girlie Sue.

Richard M. DeCosta Age 63 of Brick, NJ died September 28, 2009 at Ocean Medical Center

He was a Fire Fighter for the City Of Hackensack for 25 years until he retired 7 years ago. Born in Teaneck, NJ he lived in New Milford, NJ before moving to Brick 11Years ago. richard served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War as a Navy Seal, He was very active in many Hot Rod Clubs and the Time Capsule Cruisers of Ocean County.

He was born in Elizabeth , NJ lived in Brick, NJ before moving to Barnegat 13 years ago. Mr. Docimo was a plumber for Rotor Rooter in Bayville , NJ for 24 years.

He was predeceased by his father Robert Docimo in 1987.
He is survived by his mother Eva Maria Docimo; his daughter Kristen Kelley; two brothers Robert James Docimo; and Emilio Docimo; his sister Eva Hagaman and a granddaughter Leah Kelley.

Violet  Voronko Gajewski, 97 died Sunday September 13, 2009 at her residence in Brick with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Jersey City , NJ grew up in Poland  then moved back to Jersey City in 1926 before moving  to Brick in 1977. Mrs. Gajewski was a seamstress and a Bargaining Agent  for the Garment Workers Union, Union City ,for many years .  She was a communuicant of the Church of the Visitation , Brick and she enjoyed sewing and traveling.

She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Gajewski in 1971.  She is also predeceased by a daughter Violet Motyczka and her grandson Joseph J. Gajewski, Jr.
She is survived by a son Joseph J. Gajewski, and his wife Loree of Brick, a daughter, Delores Gajewski of Jersey City , 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Clarence E. Place (“Buzz”), age 90, died August 31, 2009 at his daughter’s home surrounded by loved ones. He was in the outstanding care of Pro Home Care, Brick & Grace Hospice, Edison Mr. Place is survived by his daughter, Joann (Place) Dale and her husband Richard Dale of Brick. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, P.R, Cheri, Maureen, Richard, Christy, Sharon, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, many family members and friends. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Mary (Maloney) Place and his son US Army Captain, Paul Place

Clarence was born in Belleville, NJ. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army’s 66th Division, the 263rd Regt. in France. After the war, Mr. Place settled with his family in Kenilworth, NJ where he had the opportunity to work as a truck driver for Shallcross Express. He was a dedicated husband, father and a well loved coach with Kenilworth Little League. Mr. Place had a passion for helping others and was a motivated fundraiser for the Elks ‘Crippled Kiddies’ fund. He also served as an Exalted Ruler for the Hillside Elks in 1965. He retired at the age of 58 and moved to Columbus , GA , where he was an avid square dancer and bowler.

A viewing will be held Sunday 9/6/09 & Monday 9/7/09 from 2-4pm, 7-9pm at Weatherhead & Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Rd. , Brick. Donald M “Red” Rutherford Passed away at home Thursday August 20, 2009.

Born in 1930 to Thomas Reid Rutherford and Helen Mathie Rutherford, immigrants from Glasgow , Scotland .  Graduated from Thomas Edison high school in Elizabeth NJ, and was well known in Elizabeth basketball circles.  Was a member of the All State AAU team in 1949.  Enlisted and served as an aviator radioman 3rd class in the Korean war aboard the navy’s largest seaplane the “Martin Mars”, stationed in Alameda CA .  He married Joan Kopac in 1952. As a new father he attended night classes at Seton Hall University on the G.I., bill while working full time at Merck and Co., as a lab tech.  Graduated in 1961 with a B.A. in business administration.  He held many positions, finally retiring from Air Cruisers, in Wall Township NJ , after 17 years, where he also bowled in the company league.  He won numerous trophies and medals. An avid runner, he ran two Jersey shore marathons, and biked the NY five borough tour several times.  He swam and placed third in the Old Orchard Lighthouse 10 K race.  A member of the Toms River YMCA, he swam several mornings a week.  Don loved adventure and daredevil experiences, from diving off a 65 ft high bridge as a young man to skydiving in 1978 with his youngest son, Tom, for one of his biggest thrills.  At 77 he braved Kingda Ka.  He volunteered for meals on wheels, Habitat for Humanity, medical research, and did three terms as a volunteer for Israel . He loved animals.  Independent and fiercely opinionated; he was his own man.  His family; wife, Joan, of 56 years, sons; Don jr, and his wife Susan, and their children Caitlin and Donnie, and Tom, wife Kelly, and their children Sabrina and Tommy, and daughter Nancy, his faithful feline companion, Benji, and his many friends will miss him.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Toms River YMCA, or the Jersey Shore animal shelter of Brick.

Visiting will be Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. At the Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Rd. , Brick.  A funeral liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday 10am at The Church of Visitation RC church, Brick.  Followed by interment at NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.

Thomas Claude Rac Jr., age 56, of Brick, died Monday, Aug. 17 at home. 

Born in Elizabeth , he lived all of his life in Brick. He was the owner/proprietor of T & L Excavating, Brick.  He was a workaholic and an avid hunter.

Thomas is survived by 2 sons, Danny and Tommy Rac; his mother, Marlene Roldan; 9 brothers, Henry, Eddie, Michael, Peter, John, Andrew, Gary, Brian and James Rac and a sister, Marlene Rac. He is also survived by his 3 best friends, Tony Capone, John Losi and Jerry Colangiovanni.

Joan V. Reilley, age 75, of Brick, died Sat., Aug. 15 at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. 

Born in New Brunswick , NJ , she lived in Piscataway , NJ prior to moving to Brick in 1980. She was a communicant of Visitation RC Church, Brick. She was Co-owner of Baywood Hardware, Brick NJ with her husband Eugene.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene J. in March of 2009 and a brother Raymond Petersen.
Joan is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters in law, Kevin Reilley, Dennis and Renee Reilley and Patrick and Donna Reilley, all of Brick; a daughter and son in law, Erin and Vincent Pagliuca of Orlando, FL; 10 grandchildren, Todd, Kevin, Matthew, Amanda, Tyler, Nicole, Kimberly, Ashley, Megan and “Buddy”, a great grandson, Zachary and her sister Vivian Petro of Toms River.

Ann Regina Hepburn Quigley passed away at home on Friday, August 14, 2009.  

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Ann later resided in Bayonne, Roselle Park, Manalapan and Manasquan.  She and her husband Edward T. Quigley Sr. retired to Florida.  Returning to New Jersey she resided in Wall and Freehold prior to moving to Brick.

Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward in 1998, her parents James F. and Ann Doddy Hepburn, her sisters Mary Gloria Hepburn, Margaret Jane Hepburn Quigley and her cousin Elizabeth Davey.
Ann is survived by her children Edward T. Jr. and Denise Quigley, Richmond, Virginia; Ann R. and William Burtt, Freehold; James F. and Denise Quigley, Brick; Robert M. and Denise Quigley, Jackson; and Clare C. and Edward Peters, Brick with whom she resided.   Also surviving is her sister Roseann Evancik, Iselin and her sisters-in-law Kathleen Quigley Hayser, Roselle Park and Mary Quigley Eick Murphy, Manasquan and brother-in-law Leo M. Quigley, Bradley Beach.  Surviving grandchildren are Brian and Bridgette Burtt, Kelly and Steve Herndon, Edward and Lauren Peters, Michael and Erin Quigley, Robert Peters, Robert and Christina Burtt, Colleen Burtt and Greg Frangipane, Robert Quigley, Timothy Quigley and Shannon Ellis-Denvil, William and Nicole Peters, Patricia Quigley and Alison Quigley.  Also surviving are her great grandchildren Katherine Herndon, Logan Burtt, Sally Herndon, Abbigail Burtt, Owen Quigley and Noah Quigley.  Her family, her joy, also includes numerous loving nieces and nephews and their children and their children’s children.

John Anthony Vaccaro, age 78, of Toms River , died Sat., Aug. 8 at Community Medical Center , Toms River .

Born in Fall River , ME , he has lived in Toms River for the past 53 years. He was employed as a Police Detective with the Dover Township Police Department for 25 years and was also a State Delegate for the PBA for 8 years until retirement. He also worked for the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Raise Program, where he helped young kids change their lives. The kids appreciated him and he will be sorely missed. John was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s RC Church, Toms River where he was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Emerald Society and was an avid fisherman.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Loretta Vaccaro, a brother Ralph Vaccaro and his Aunt Irene.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Jo Ann Robertazzi Vaccaro; a son and daughter in law, Michael Philip and Sherry Vaccaro of Toms River; 2 brothers in law, George Robertazzi and wife Jo Ann and James Robertazzi and wife Jacqueline; 2 sisters in law, Lorraine Parrino and husband Lenny and Rosalie Bellio and husband Jimmy and 2 grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, his cousin Victoria Rose Franzo and many family and friends that he faithfully prayed the rosary for every day.

Salvatore “Charlie” Sanzo, age 96, of Brick, died Friday, Aug. 7 at home. 

Born in Bayonne , NJ , he lived there prior to moving to Brick 46 years ago. He was employed as a salesman with J & J Distributors, Millburn , NJ . He was a communicant of Visitation RC Church, where he was also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus #836. Charlie was a 15 year volunteer at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was predeceased by his wife Rose Marie Conti in 1993 and many brothers and sisters. Charlie is survived by 4 sons and daughters in law, Vito and Valerie Sanzo of Chicago , IL , Daniel S. and Ruth Sanzo of Manahawkin, Salvatore and Kelly of Cape May and Anthony and Kathy Sanzo of Pittsburg, PA; 3 daughters and a son in law, Sister Frances Sanzo of Parsippany, Maria Sanzo of Brick and Philomena and Tony Coco of Bayonne and 8 grandchildren.

Anna E. Kennedy, age 93, of Brick, died Sunday, July 26, 2009 at home. Born in Newark , she lived there prior to moving to Brick 50 years ago.

Walter C. “Wally Wonderful” Adamczak, age 75, of Brick, died Sat., July 25 at home. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Lakewood prior to moving to Brick 20 years ago.

He was employed as a railroad engineer with NJ Transit Rail for 41 years until his retirement. Walter was a member of the Elks of brick and a lifetime member of the Musicians Union #399 of Asbury Park . He was also an avid Yankee fan.

He was predeceased by his former wife Gloria Albani Adamczak.
Walter is survived by three sons and a daughter in law, Al and Sylvia O’Connell of Brick, Walter Adamczak of FL and John Adamczak of Brick; three daughters and two sons in law, Linda Adamczak of Neptune, Laura and John Kline of PA and Carolee and Frank Cottrell of Lakewood; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Harold Walter Mangels, age 92, of Brick, went to heaven, Fri. July 17, 2009. He passed peacefully with his family surrounding him.

Born and raised in Jersey City , he moved to Brick (Eagle Point) in 1980. He was an electrician with PSE & G for 39 years, retiring in 1979. Harold was a veteran of WWII, served in the Army and fought for our country’s freedom in the Philippines . He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Veronica Mangels in 1966.

Surviving are two daughters and sons in law, Barbara and Theodore Hall of Brick and Marilyn and Barry Nolan of Waretown. Harold also had 5 grandchildren, Tracey Nolan, Scott Hall, Lisa maroney, Robyn Howlett and Stephanie Bennett along with 6 great grandchildren, Kelsey, Caitlin, Emma, Payton, Grant and Jake.

Sigmund “Charlie” Obranowicz, age 90, of Lakewood , entered into our Lord’s home on July 4, 2009. 

Born in Bayonne on Dec. 4, 1918, he lived in Cranford/Kenilworth until moving to Lakewood in 1991. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor proudly serving in the US Army in the South Pacific from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post 165, Bayonne He was employed by Exxon Refinery in Bayonne for 36 years, retiring in 1981.

Charlie was predeceased by his wife Florence Dryzga in 1972 and his brother Alexander Oberwanowicz in 2008. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Wanda Kochanowski Obranowicz, whom he called “his Dearie”; a daughter, Nancy and her husband Bob Kolbe of Ohio ; son Charles of KY ; a stepson Edward Kochanowski of MA and our precious friend and neighbor, Vivian Spero, who was like a daughter to him. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and a step granddaughter; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Stella Trepko and Mary Siryj and a caring sister in law, Marge Oberwanowicz, and Janice and Gary, all of Bayonne .

There were no frills or pretenses with Charlie, “what you see is what you get”. He has asked that you remember him in life, not in death, and has requested no funeral or service. He will be cremated and his cremains will go out to the sea which he loved, being such a great fisherman for 70 years. He was called “Bluefish Charlie”. We all enjoyed his many stories and had many laughs together. Please reflect on the happy memories we all have of him. He will be dearly missed.

Charlie’s favorite charity and mine are the blind children at St. Joseph ’s School for the Blind, which his stepson attended, 761 Summit Ave. , Jersey City , NJ 07307 . If you wish to honor his memory, he would ask that in your charitable endeavors, you would please remember them.  

So long my dear Charlie-your sufferings are over and you are now with our dear Lord, who was the greatest fisherman of all. Love you, rest in peace A memorial mass will be at a later date. Elizabeth Reilly, age 76, of Toms River , died Sunday, July 5 at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. Born in Jersey City , she lived in Clifton and Carlstadt prior to moving to Toms River 12 years ago.

She was employed as the Executive Assistant to the President for Becton Dickinsen, East Rutherford for 30 years, retiring in 1991. She was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Toms River .

She was predeceased by her husband John Reilly in 2007 and her sister Irene Dominica on July 1, 2009

He was a Postal Supervisor at the Lakewood Post Office for many years until he retired at age 54. Born Dehague , Netherlands. He lived in Jackson since 1963 and moved to Brick a year ago. He served in the US Navy in World War II as a Baker 3rd Class. he was a member of the American Legion, Toms River post, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and Gideon's International. He also donated to various charities & organizations and was a member of Faith Bible Church , Brick

Constance Howe, age 57, of Brick, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at home. 

Born in Bound Brook , NJ , she grew up in Jackson prior to moving to Brick 38 years ago.
She was employed as a Bus Driver with the Brick Township Board of Education for 25 years. Constance was an active member of the American Legion Post 348, Brick.

She was predeceased by her parents, Donald Eugene and Anna Margaret Mitchell; a brother, Thomas Mitchell in 2003 and a sister Sharon Fossati in 1996.

Elsie B. Yacobellis, age 79, of Brick, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. 

Born in New York , she lived in Lynbrook, Long Island prior to moving to Brick 10 years ago. She was employed as the Vice President of the Tax Division at Equitable, New York for 40 years until her retirement. Elsie was a communicant of Church of the Visitation, Brick.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Yacobellis, 1997, 2 sisters, Mary Stuis, 1996 and Ann Patterson, 2005 and a brother, Richard Brown.
Elsie is survived by nieces and nephews, John Stuis and wife Victoria of Brick, Laura Guida and husband Robert of Brick, Susan Ferraro and husband Brian of East Rutherford, Kristene Caughey and husband Patrick of Rutherford and Charles Stuis and wife Nancy of Wood-Ridge. She is also survived by many loving great nieces and great nephews.

Donald L. Kennett, age 83, of Brick, died Friday, June 19 at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. Born in Smithburg, he lived in Brick for most of his life.

He was head of the Maintenance Shop for Brick Township Schools for 26 years, retiring in 1990. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II. Donald was a member of Pioneer Hose Fire Co., Brick since 1961 and the Antique Auto Club of Point Pleasant. He was also an avid camper.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Howard, Otis and Charles Kennett and his sisters, Elizabeth Anderson, Joyce Matthews and Lillian Waitz.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Miller Kennett.

Robert Siccardi, age 74, of Brick, died Monday, June 8 at home. 

Born in Englewood , he lived in Coytesville , NJ prior to moving to Brick 60 years ago. He was employed as an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Co., Wall. Robert served in the United States Navy during the end of the Korean War.  He was a member of the Republican Club, Brick and the Brick Postal Advisory Committee. He was also a former Republican Committeeman of Ocean County , former member of the Pioneer Hose Fire Company, past President of Brick memorial High School band Boosters, and a Brick Morning Rotarian for 30 years. He was a Paul Harris Fellow.

Born in Brooklyn , NY , he lived in Lyndhurst prior to moving to Lakewood 5 years ago He was employed as an accountant with Lummis & Co., Bloomfield for 17 years, retiring in 1989 He was active in his community and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of Sacred Heart Church, Lyndhurst .

James C. Carmelitano, age 84, of Mantoloking Shores , died suddenly Fri., June 5 at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. 

Born in Hoboken , he lived in Bloomfield for 40 years prior to moving to Mantoloking Shores 10 years ago. He was a graduate of AJ Demarest HS in 1942 and received his BA from New York University in 1954. He was employed as a manager of New York Port Authority Truck Terminal, the largest truck terminal in the world. Most recently, he specialized in terminal management and sales in truck-water and railroad transportation until retirement from Pennsylvania Truck Line, a division of Conrail in 1992. James enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and received an honorable discharge in 1949. During his service, he received several medals including the WWII Victory Medal & American Area Campaign, European African Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Philipean Liberation , China Service and Good Conduct. He also served on the Wm Wood DD715 & Brinkley Bass DD 887. He was a member and Past Quartermaster of the VFW, Post 8867, Brick. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace RC Church, Normandy Beach.

James is survived by his wife of 58 years, Norma Fritch; a son and daughter in law, James M and Mary Ellin Carmelitano of Wilmington, NY; 2 daughters and sons in law, Jean and John McConaghie, of Brick and Jamie and Michael Betar of Brick; a brother, Michael Carmelitano of Englewood and a sister in law, Marjorie Downing of Toms River. Edmund Hughes Sr., of Brick NJ, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2009.

Edmund was born on June 4, 1928 to James and Mary Geraghty Hughes in Jersey City , NJ . At the age of 16, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard Merchant Marines, and completed two sailings. After the Merchant Marines, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a sergeant while in Korea . In 1949, he married the former Mildred Carara, who knew him as “Whitey” for his platinum blonde hair. He also had four children. He became a police officer for the Port Authority of NY/NJ and retired in 1974 after 20 years on the job. After moving to Florida for a few years, he worked for the Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale Airport Police and then transferred to the Broward County Sheriff’s Department. Upon returning to NJ, he became a Police Officer for the Department for Defense at Lakehurst Naval Base. He served for 18 years, during which he received numerous promotions, eventually attaining the title of Chief of Police. He retired as Chief of Police in 1999.

Edmund loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He loved spending time with his family and especially loved to entertain “the little ones”. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes to family and friends. He was always there to listen and try to help anyone who had a problem. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.

Edmund is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Mildred Carara Hughes, who passed in 2008. He is survived by his children; Edmund G. and wife Gail of Cape Coral, FL., Howard of Brick, NJ, Michael and wife Melissa of Manchester, NJ and Sandra Hughes of Toms River, NJ. He is also survived by two sisters; Rose Moore of East Strousburg, PA and Kathleen Scavo of North Arlington , NJ. Edmund also leaves behind six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was employed as an Aircraft Technician with McGuire Air Force Base, Wrightstown for 30 years until retiring in 1986.

She often returned to Germany to visit her extended family and Godchildren, as well as her Father, Brother and 2 Sisters, by whom she is predeceased. Heidi will be remembered by those who knew her as a generous, and kind wife, mother, and friend, who loved to tend to her beautiful flowers, and enjoyed watching the birds from her kitchen window, as she cooked for her family.

Frank V. Casella, age 86, of Brick, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2009, at his daughter’s home in Lavallette , NJ .  He was a maintenance engineer at St. Francis Hospital , Jersey City , NJ for 20 years before retiring in 1990.

Mr. Casella was born in Jersey City , had lived in Union City and Bergenfield prior to moving to Brick in 1998.  He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Nee Del Gaudio) Casella in 2008 and 7 brothers and sisters.  Surviving are a son Frank V. John N. Howard age 86 of Brick  passed away peacefully at home  surrounded by his family on April 25th., 2009 After many years of a courageous battle with cancer.  

He was born in New Albany , Indiana .  He proudly served his country in WW II as a Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Force.  Mr. Howard lived in Chatham, NJ with is wife before moving to Brick.  He spent his career in education as an industrial arts teacher, Assistant Principal of Middle School, and administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of the East Hanover Board of Education for 35 years retiring in 1982. He excelled in fine woodworking and photography.  He captained his boat for many years with his wife Carol as first mate.  John was also a member of the Ocean county Camera Club where he received many awards.  He served as president from 1994 to 1996.

He was pre-deceased by his parents Nicholas K. and Florence B. Howard.  His sister and brother in law Mabel H. and Richard H. Tunstead.  And his niece and nephew  Judy and David Tunstead
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Carol Odell Howard.  His son John D. Howard and his wife Susan . He served in the Navy in World War II as a Gunners Mate 2nd. Class. After serving in WW ii James developed a deep interest; and his own library of Military History, He also belonged to several local veterans Groups and loved to Garden. Evelyn N. Forina Forte, age 89, of Brick, formerly of Orange, Newark and Union, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2009. 

She is predeceased by her husband Dominick Forte and her six brothers and sisters.

Robert Dawson Fletcher, 85, of Kingfisher Cove, Brick Township, passed away on April 2, 2009.  

Born January 4, 1924, Robert lived in Kearny until moving to Breton Woods (Brick), a favorite summer home, in 1943.  He was a graduate of Kearny High School in 1941, and proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.  On April 29, 1949, he married the love of his life, Bernardine Rose Oelkers; this April would have marked the 60th anniversary of their devotion to one another.  Robert lived the remainder of his life in the house he built in Kingfisher Cove, where he and Bernardine raised their six children. A self-employed carpenter and building contractor for many years, Robert continued in this capacity at L&H Plumbing and Heating Supplies until his retirement.  He was an avid water skier, fisherman, and a master-craftsman who loved his work. He was a parishioner of Church of the Visitation, Brick. He was a devoted friend and father, and a doting “Pop,” whose greatest passion was teaching his grandchildren an appreciation for honesty, hard work, and good fun!  All who knew him will miss him dearly. 

Robert is predeceased by his father, Richard Dawson Fletcher in 1928, his mother, Catherine Alice Simpson Fletcher in 2001; and his brothers, Richard and Eugene Fletcher. He is survived by his loving wife, Bernardine Rose Oelkers Fletcher of Brick; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Zeller Fletcher of Brick; his sons, Michael Robert Fletcher of Brick, and William Dawson Fletcher and wife Kim of Tellico Plains, TN; his daughters: Kathleen Fletcher Wight and husband Jimmer of Normandy Beach; Nancy Fletcher Sweeney and husband Dennis of Singer Island, FL; Jo Anne Fletcher Principe and husband James of Homosassa, FL; and Jane Fletcher Brandsdorfer and husband Michael of Brick; his adoring grandchildren: Jayme Wight, Cody Wight, Erin Sweeney Marise and husband USMC Major Christopher Michael, Megan Sweeney, Jill Principe Maloney and husband Kevin, Toni Jo Principe, John Fletcher, Robert Fletcher, Carey Brandsdorfer, and Jason Brandsdorfer; and his beloved great-grandchildren Brenna Maloney and Logan Marise.

Eleanor G. (Genung) Hardy  Age 91 of Ocean Grove, NJ died March 20, 2009 at Jersey Shore Medical Center

She worked in the Book Publishing field for Silver Burdett in New York, NY for 14 years. Born and raised in Newark, NJ where she lived most of her life. She lived in Lakewood from 1972 until moving to Ocean Grove in 2001

Her family owned a masonry supply company and were prominent business people in Newark in the early 1900's. She spent her childhood summers in Ocean Grove, NJ. Many years later, she wrote about her experiences and memories of Ocean Grove at that time in a series of articles for the Asbury Park Press. While living in Lakewood, she worked for 14 years as a part-time secretary for Outreach for Seniors. she was a member of Brick Presbyterian Church, Brick

Thomas Syrianoudis, 45 of Little Egg Harbor died Wednesday at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin.  

He was born in Manhattan, NY and lived in Creskill, NJ prior to Little Egg Harbor. He was the owner of Meadowcress, a Landscaping/Tree Service business located in Creskill, NJ.  He enjoyed fishing and working on boats and cars in his spare time.

He is predeceased by his parents George and Florence Claire (Lindsay) Syrianoudis.  He is survived by his loving daughter Kristyn Syrianoudis, of Bergenfield, NJ and dear friend April Hash of Brick, NJ.

Daniel Francis Newman, Sr. AGE 73  BRICK, NJ “My family is undoubtedly the highlight of my life” , Dan Newman, 2005

Former Mayor and Assemblyman, Daniel Francis Newman Sr. devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away on March  13, 2009.  He was born July 25, 1935 in Bayonne, NJ to John and Bertha Newman.  He was predeceased by sisters Denise Allen (Wilmington, VT) , Marguerite Yurko (Bayonne, NJ), brother William Newman (Long Branch, NJ) , and grandson Zachary Morgan.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara Jeane Newman and their 6 children and spouses: Richard and Jeannie Newman, Susan and Richard Morgan, Caryl Scherer, BJ and Robert Stocker, Daniel Jr and Romayne Newman, Donald and Janine Newman. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Shannon and Mike Alechko, Kaitlyn Morgan, Tyler Morgan, Leann Scherer, Caroline Newman, Jacqueline Newman, Jennilee Stocker and Emmilee Stocker.

He is also survived by brother John Newman and wife Carol (Cape Coral, FL), sister Joan DelMaster (Wilmington, VT), brother-in law Ray “Buddy” Gunther and wife Arlene(Brick), father-in-law, Jack Verbeke(Brick), and Robert Scherer, along with many nieces and nephews.

Daniel Newman moved his family to Brick in 1959 where he opened two gas stations and Newman Tires which he operated until starting the Pineland Plumbing business in 1965.  Shortly thereafter, his love for the town prompted him to put his heart and soul into the political arena.  Over a 45 year period he held many elected and appointed positions.  Although he was honored to serve as a state Assemblyman from 1974-1979, his passion remained in Brick where he was most proud of his accomplishments beginning with serving as president, commissioner, chairperson, or member of the Board of Education, Planning Board, and Board of Adjustment, the Brick Democratic Club, Ocean County Board of Elections, BTMUA and the Ocean County Democratic Committee.  Daniel Newman served as Mayor of Brick Township from 1983 to 1989, the highlight of his political career.

His love of family and community compelled him to be involved in many civic and philanthropic organizations including the Brick Chamber of Commerce, the Ocean County Fireman’s Association, the Association of Vocational Boards of Education, the Boys Club, and Little League.  He was involved with the founding of the Pop Warner football program in Brick and was instrumental in the creation of parks and ball fields throughout town.  Noteworthy,  the Junior Sports League named a baseball field in his honor.  He worked toward the building and establishment of the Brick Hospital, now the Meridian Ocean Medical Center.

She was born in Newark ,Leisure Chateau Care Center , Lakewood as a nurses aid.  Eileen was a devoted Christian and graduated from Union High School in 1972.

She is the loving mother of 4 daughters, Sarah, of East Rutherford, NJ, Amanda and Christine both of Brick, and Jessica, Tinton Falls , NJ .  She has three younger Siblings Henry Miller and his wife Nina of Cranford, NJ, Margaret Baer and her husband Ron of Fairfax,Va, and Joanne DiPalo and her husband Eric of Wilmington, No. Carolina .  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved and Loved her.

Florence Virginia Verbeke, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at her home on February 12, 2009.  

She was born July 4, 1917 in Dillwyn , VA to Frank and Mattie Jamerson.  After many years of employment with RCA, she owned, operated and retired from the Brick Carvel where she was affectionately known as “Gram.”  

She was predeceased by her first husband Richard “Buster” Gunther, loving son William Gunther and great grandson Zachary Morgan. She was also predeceased by brothers Earnest (Dillwyn, VA), Marshall (Baltimore, MD), Lindy (Dillwyn, VA), and E. Wayne (Winginia, VA) Jamerson, as well as sisters Louise Drewry (Baltimore, MD), Ruby Duncan (Powhatan, VA) and Mamie Bryant (Winginia, VA).

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jack Verbeke, a daughter and son-in-law Barbara Jeane and Daniel Newman and son and daughter-in-law “Buddy” Ray and Arlene Gunther.  She is also survived by brothers Emmett and wife Carolyn of Charlotte, NC, and Andrew and wife Dorothy of Powhatan, VA.  Florence is survived by 11 grandchildren and spouses: Richard and Jeannie Newman, Susan and Richard Morgan, Caryl Scherer, BJ and Robert Stocker, Daniel and Romayne Newman, Donald and Janine Newman, William Jr. and Kathy Gunther, Richard Gunther, Anna and Jason Silva, Kelly and Brian Scott, and Ray Gunther Jr.. John C. “Jack” Haidle of Howell , NJ , was born February 20, 1930 in Newark , and was called to rest on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Kimball Medical Center , Lakewood .

 A veteran of the Korean War, he proudly served with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Cabot as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Second Class. After returning home, he worked as a Railroad Freight Conductor for Conrail in Kearny until retiring to Howell. Jack enjoyed many activities, most involving planes, trains, and automobiles.  He had his private pilot’s license, enjoyed technology, including ham radios, computers, photography, astronomy, boating, fishing and bird watching, and played tennis, golf, and was an avid bowler, playing in 4-5 leagues a year with his wife and friends.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Anna Haidle, and brothers Fred Haidle, NJ, and Dr. Charles W. Haidle, TX.  He leaves to cherish his memory wife Imelda, son Brian Haidle, grandson Joshua Haidle, Laura, Alan and Carol Sariego and her children Charlie Alesi and Amanda Lawson, and a host of extended family and friends.

REGINA WALKER, 85, of Brick Township died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Brighton Gardens, an assisted living facility in Middletown where she had resided since 2006. 

Born in Staten Island NY , she married Robert J. Walker in June 1946 when he returned from military service at the end of WW II.  She resided in Bergen County for many years prior to moving to Brick in 1984.  She was a devoted wife, homemaker and mother.

Carol Anne (Ebery) Merlo Age 69 Brick, NJ passed away on January 29, 2009, surrounded by her family after a brief illness at Meridian Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center

She was an Industrial Technician with DPT Labs in Lakewood , NJ for 28 years until she retired: in 2007.  Born in Newark , NJ she lived in Summit , NJ before moving to Brick, NJ 35 years ago

She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She has a great love for animals especially her cat Pippy.

She worked in the Central Tracing department of First National Bank in Toms River , NJ  for 15 years until she retired. Born in Orange , NJ she grew up In Livingston , NJ .,  moved to Brick in 1960 then Whiting in 1996. She was the past president of the Brick VFW, Post 8867 Ladies Auxiliary.

Trevor Joseph Tarnowski, 29 of Brick died Monday at Ocean Medical Center , Brick.

He was born in Pt. Pleasant, NJ and  was a lifetime resident of Brick. He was a construction worker for P & J Builders, Barnegat , NJ for 2 years.  He was a member of St. Dominic’s Churc.  He was an avid bowler and one time hockey player.  He loved the Steelers and Flyers, he lived for his family.

He is survived by his wife Valerie Beyers Tarnowski of Brick,a  daughter Morgan Loretta Tarnowski at home, his parents David and Loretta Tarnowski, ,two brothers David Tarnowski and his wife Maria of Brick, and Timothy Tarnowski also of Brick. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents.

Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 & 6-9 PM at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Rd , Brick.  A funeral service will be held Thursday 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.

Robert B. Pyott Sr., age 77, of Toms River , passed away January 18 at home.  

Born in Passiac , NJ , he lived in Bloomfield prior to moving to Toms River 38 years ago. Robert was a member of Calvary Lighthouse, Lakewood ; Life Member of the ELKS, Brick, NJ #2151; Past President of Jackson Rotary Club, and recipient of the Paul Harris Award; Vice President of Lawrence Packaging INC., Newark, NJ.  Over the years he was part owner of local family owned and operated businesses: Bob’s Discount Office Furniture, Brick; Office Emporium, Lakewood; and Jam’s, Jackson.  Robert is also Korean War Navy Veteran.

He was predeceased by his daughter Cindy Ann Mitchell. Robert is survived by his wife Margaret Harrison Pyott; Son Robert B. Pyott Jr. and wife Marlene of Manchester, NJ; Son-in-Law A. Robert Mitchell of Howell , NJ .  4 Grandchildren: Kimberly Dowling, Robert Sedivec, Christina Pyott, and Victoria Pyott.  2 Great Grandchildren Hannah Foray and Daniel Dowling Jr.

Irene D.. Chadwick, died Saturday January 17th at  her residence in Brick.  She was born in Lakewood and lived in Brick since she was 18.

She was a factory worker for Becton Dickenson in Brick.  She was a member of Osbornville Baptist Church .  She was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband Paul.

She was predeceased by her first husband Theodore Dennis and her second husband Paul Chadwick. She was also predeceased by her son Robert Dennis., two  stepsons Winifred and Theodore Dennis,two daughters Marie Fleming and Dorothy Swenson.  She is also predeceased by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

She is survived by a step-son Frederick  Dennis of Whiting , 16 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday 7-9 PM at the Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road , Brick.  A funeral service will be held Friday 10;00 AM at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park , Toms River .

Loretta E. (Gardner) Kelly Age 93 Brick, NJ died January 13, 2009. Death Occurred a: Burnt Tavern Nursing Home

She was Home Maker. Born Florence, NJ She lived in North Arlington, NJ until she moved to Brick in 1961.She was a parisioner of Visitation Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Alter Society as well as the  Brick VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Brick Democratic Club. She was involved with fund raising for various organizations.

Born in New York , NY she lived in East Orange , NJ, then New York City before moving to Manchester 22 years ago. She was very active in the Leisure Village West community and a parishioner of St. John’s RC Church, Lakehurst , NJ.
